AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS – April 17, 2014 – On June 24-25, 2014, experts at ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ Wixom, MI, are to host a workshop on aluminum metallography and testing in association with the American Foundry Society (AFS). Explaining the latest thinking in test procedures for chemical analysis, ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½’s experts will provide world-class insight into metallography and mechanical testing of cast aluminum alloys.

The practical workshop will be led by ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ colleagues Richard Gundlach, an expert on aluminum casting alloys and characterization for the automotive industry; Dr. John Tartaglia, an international authority on metallic testing and recipient of AFS’ 2013 Howard F. Taylor Award for his acclaimed paper comparing monotonic and cyclic properties of ductile cast iron; and Veronica Thelander, an aluminum alloy expert.  Thomas Prucha, Vice President of AFS and an aluminum castings expert will also serve on the workshop faculty.

Aimed at aluminum casting personnel, the course is designed to enhance understanding of key subjects, including metallography sample preparation and interpretation, microstructure evaluation and mechanical testing procedures. Laboratory demonstrations and training will encompass: metallographic sample preparation; microstructure analysis; quantitative measurements; tensile tests; and interpreting metallographic samples to identify microstructural elements and phases.
