ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ has invested in a leading-edge vibration test system at its Warwick laboratory, making it the premier testing house in the UK for ‘on- engine’ aerospace vibration testing to 3kHz.
The new shaker, an investment of close to one million US dollars, provides full spectrum coverage to Aerospace Primes with testing capacity of up to 125g from 100Hz to 3kHz (25kg load) and a force of 98kN Random and 111kN Sine. The system offers increased durability for endurance testing, enabling longer test runs and shorter delivery times.
Rick Sluiters, EVP Aerospace at ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ commented: ‘’As aero engine manufacturers push the limits of their design, they are imposing harsher qualification regimes to ensure greater reliability of their safety-critical products. ‘On engine’ components and subsystems face the most severe environmental conditions on the aircraft and this new shaker allows us to impose real life vibration exposure during the development and qualification process.
Most vibration systems are limited to either 2kHz or a significantly reduced ‘g’ level to 3kHz, forcing customers to request concessions from the engine design authority or run tests at lower levels for significantly longer periods.
This latest investment will significantly change the aerospace testing landscape for Europe, providing our customers with the highest vibration testing capabilities to meet their testing requirements, saving them time and money in the process.’’
ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ Warwick is an Environmental Testing Centre of Technical Excellence with UKAS accreditation to BS EN ISO/IEC 17025:2005. The laboratory currently has three of the four largest commercially available shakers in the country and offers the most comprehensive range of independent vibration facilities in the UK.
The new shaker is expected to be in operation in March 2019.
